TMMBT receives
DAGS for its project AKIS
National IT Council (NITC) has approved Demonstrator Application Grant
Scheme (DAGS) funding of RM1.7 million for TMM-Biotech Sdn Bhd (TMMBT)
to develop Agriculture Knowledge Integrator System known as project
AKIS. The knowledge partners supporting this project are IFS with its
component-based technology, Malaysian Agriculture Research & Development
Institution (MARDI), Lembaga Pertubuhan Peladang (LPP) and more are
expected to join.
AKIS is a Knowledge Management System that will promote "knowledge
farming" and is expected to contribute significantly towards agro-industrial
development in Malaysia. AKIS will be a catalyst that will encourage
the development of educational and productivity programmes.
"This system is designed for the farming community and we see the
potential where ultimately tools and aids for "precision agriculture"
will be developed to help improve crop yield. The system will thus help
the farming community to incorporate technology into their industry
and make Malaysia a leader in the use of technology in farming."
according to Timothy Chua, director of TMMBT.
"The first challenge is content development
which is part of our focus - capturing knowledge and productizing so
that it can be distributed and k-economy can be started. The other is
a bigger challenge, community development." says KJ John, VP of
IT Policy for DAGS. "In this smart partnership, the benefit to
the public interest is what gets me excited." He further added
that as seed funders he hoped to see innovations from experimentation
with new ideas; new solutions to old problems.
